Draft Profile – Owen Lalonde

Owen Lalonde

Right-Handed Defenseman

Guelph Storm (OHL)

Size: 6’1 (185 cm) and 176 lbs (80 kg)

Another situation where it’s hard to find free video of this kid for you guys, but the first couple clips here showcase what you’re going to get with Owen Lalonde, albeit a year old. Simply put, he’s not a flashy guy but he’s been improving slowly. Doesn’t really stand out a ton, but he shows talent in his passing game. He definitely needs to use the body more and add some weight if he wants to be anything more than a career AHL guy.

It’s worth mentioning that he was the HockeyNow player of the year for minor hockey in 2016, but since he was moved from the rebuilding Sudbury Wolves to the Guelph Storm, he hasn’t turned heads. Maybe it’s just because he was taken 2nd overall in the OHL priority draft and he’s got a lot of pressure on him, but I’m concerned, to say the least.

Likely draft position: Outside the top 50

Best fits in the NHL: Detroit, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Boston, Washington
