Draft Profile – Jett Woo

Jett Woo

Right-Handed Defenseman

Moose Jaw Warriors (WHL)

Size: 6’0 (182 cm) and 205 lbs (93 kg)

Ric Flair’s all-time favorite NHL prospect has been trying his best to keep himself relevant in a stacked defensive draft. He’s actually a much better skater than I planned, but he still lacks top speed that would keep him in the first half of the first round. To make up for that, he’s got a bruising physical style that translates very well to the NHL game. He’s been leaned on heavily by Moose Jaw this season despite missing a month due to injury. That combined with the inconsistency of his offensive performance makes him a tough prospect to really get a read on, but the simplicity of his game and his knack for good positioning seems to keep him in that conversation as a safe pick. He’s not going to have that high end potential you might find in others, but he’s almost a lock for a bottom 4 slot from the get go.

I will give him credit for the plus shot he’s got, but he needs time to develop. I would say any team who drafts him is looking at another year in Moose Jaw, then another year or two before he steps out of the AHL and into an NHL sweater. He’s got incredible character and a high compete level, things every coach desires, but it’s hard to pin point him exactly without more information for his offensive ability.

Likely draft position: 25-35

Best fits in the NHL: Detroit, Toronto, Washington, New York Rangers, Chicago

Player comparison(s): Niklas Hjalmarsson, Danny DeKeyser, Travis Hamonic
